Trance fans are working themselves into a lather over genre stalwart Ferry Corsten’s touchdown in Dubai this weekend. Here are ten Ferry facts…

Since his first single in 1991, he’s fired out more than 175 other tracks.

Known predominantly as Ferry Corsten or System F, he’s used about 30 aliases over the years including A Jolly Good Fellow, Moonman and The Nutter.

When he was just 21, Ferry won the De Grote Prijs van Nederland award in his home country of The Netherlands for his contribution to electronic dance music.

He started his own radio show in 2007 called Corsten’s Countdown. It’s completely interactive, with his listeners voting for and ranking all the songs he plays. The show now airs in more than 50 countries.

Ferry was studying to become an electrical engineer in Rotterdam before he left university to beome a DJ instead.

His favourite movie is Blade Runner. He included a song from the soundtrack, Blade Runner Blues, in his 2004 remix album Infinite Euphoria.

Along with ten other Dutch celebrities, Ferry is an ambassador for the Dutch World Wildlife Fund, using his gigs all over the world as a way to raise awareness for the charity.

In 2011, to celebrate 20 years of making music, he released the 20 Years Of Ferry Corsten app. The app had an hour-long mix, as well as other tracks, making Ferry the first artist to ever release an app-only album.

Corsten released his first recording when he was 16, financing it by cleaning cars and making mixtapes to sell to other kids living nearby.

He’s worked with and made remixes for dozens of other artists, from Duran Duran to Nelly Furtado, Lighthouse Family and, um, Justin Beiber.
