Having partnered with renowned designed Philippe Stark, diners are struck by a heavy-toned interior awash with stunning shape and colour which wouldn’t look out of place in one of Paris’ coolest and finest dinner spots. Certainly, the ornate chandeliers and vast pieces of wall art would not look out of place in a gallery.

Confusion starts with the giant juicer behind the bar. But with every box of a menu seemingly ticked, each group appeared to be in their own little world rather than in that of the restaurant.

Meat and fish is at the very heart of everything, to the point where a page of the menu is dedicated to ‘create your own’, encouraging diners to choose form 13 cuts and styles with numerous sides and sauces. Pick of the dishes, though, are the steamed and cooked cocottes – or, tagines. The lamb pot was excellent, bursting with zesty flavours alongside the tender braised meat and almond rice.

Well, everything really, which is both a strength and a weakness. The collection of fruit-based smoothies, juices, cocktails, fro-yo and delicious sorbets make this new JBR dining spot a terrific spot to get your five-a-day. But look beyond that and you have a very good restaurant, indeed.

Le Paradis du Fruit was started by brothers as an ice cream parlour and juice bar in Paris some 30 years ago. It now has more than 25 outlets all over the founder’s homeland.

The name feels a bit like an anchor to the past holding back what is so much more than just a ‘fruit paradise’. Le Paradis du Food might be more apt.
