“Dubai is known for a number of things, but urban culture isn’t one of them. It’s not that it doesn’t exist – you just have to look a little harder to find it.” So say the Sole DXB boys – the lads behind the region’s cool lifestyle platform for fashion, footwear, culture, art and design – and we couldn’t agree more.

But the good news is that the urban culture community in Dubai is growing daily, and the Sole DXB guys, who are also Hype contributors, are taking the initiative to put on events designed to bring the region’s cutting-edge forward-thinkers together.

The Sole DXB ‘sneaker summit’ brings serious trainer collectors and budding enthusiasts alike up close and personal with streetwear brands and cult footwear designers in ‘a celebration of Middle East street culture’.

A must-visit for sneaker freaks, this year’s Sole event is a two-day affair in Dubai’s Design District that’ll play host to a staggering array of sneaker brands, workshops and talks, DJs and musicians, graffiti artists, a basketball tournament and a whole lot more besides – not to mention some of the coolest kicks on the planet that’ll have trainer enthusiasts drooling.

Expecting 10,000 people to visit this year over its duration, Sole DXB’s Hussain Moloobhoy said: “It’s a celebration of urban lifestyle so we welcome anyone with an interest in the influencing pillars of street culture, including progressive fashion and streetwear, art, hip-hop, basketball, skate and, of course, sneakers.”

He added: “Urban culture is definitely growing here. It’s encouraging to see enthusiasts come together to build a strong community and push those regional boundaries. We’ve seen the emergence of new regionally based talent, designers, artists and brands. That’s what Sole DXB has always been about – creating a platform for that to happen, to promote and set new trends for the region.”

D3, Dubai Design District, Friday, November 14, 12pm to 10pm, and Saturday, November 15, from 12pm to 8pm. More details coming soon via soledxb.com and facebook.com/SoleDXB
