We love a record here in Dubai – biggest this, highest that, most expensive whatever else. And so with Halloween in sight, the city isn’t holding back. Introducing the single biggest fruit or vegetable ever transported by Emirates Airline, a pumpkin!

Hailed as one of the largest ever grown, special crates and lifts were required to get it on and off the Emirates A380 from Paris to Dubai, as you can see by the pictures above.

The large, bulbous, French gourd clocks in at a whopping 500kg, and is being brought to the UAE for a special display inside the artisan grocer Market & Platters in Dubai Marina.

In the run up to the Halloween and Thanksgiving season, the pumpkin has become a symbol of these celebrations, embodying the spirit of togetherness, and Market & Platters invites families to visit the store, take a #PumpkinSelfie and, for a discretionary donation, “Make a Wish Upon a Pumpkin,” by etching your wish on the giant squash.

“Due to the agricultural landscape of the country, it is rare that children get to witness farming at this scale,” explains the team at Market & Platters. “So in the season where pumpkins are part of the holidays, we cherish the opportunity to bring something different and fun to the region.”

The pumpkin will be on display until the first weekend of November and is open to the public from today.

A plethora of other Halloween events are set to take place across the emirate including Zombie Fest with DJ Jazzy Jeff at Barasti, a scary movie night at Bab Al Shams resort as well as a spooky club night at Societe.
