What’s On previews the IGN Convention in Dubai, at Dubai International Marine Club, featuring Game Of Thrones star Hodor. Get tickets.
It’s easy to pick out the big attraction at this year’s IGN Convention – he’s six feet ten inches tall.
Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor, the gentle giant from Game Of Thrones, will make an appearance at the two-day festival of comics, TV, movies and video games. Anybody who wants to have their photo taken with Kristian might want to bring a box to stand on.
Arcade games, tabletop games, art, a children’s zone and a look at the music of video games will also feature, while serious gamers can fight it out for a Dhs10,000 prize in Tekken and Killer Instinct tournaments.
Guests include Troy Baker whose voice has featured on hit video games such as BioShock Infinite, The Last Of Us, Final Fantasy XIII, Batman: Arkham City and Resident Evil Six. World famous Cosplayer Riddle will also greet her fans.
For a local audience, filmmaker SA Saidi will hold a talk discussing the first full-length sci-fi movie to be released from the region. ‘Aerials’ is the Dubai-based director’s second release and comes following an encouraging response to his short-film debut, ‘The Son Of Two Suns’.
In an interview with 7Days newspaper this week, he said: “I think making a feature length science fiction movie will be a trail in the market, it will interest a lot of distributors. There are a lot of sci-fi fans in the UAE waiting to be tapped.”
