We love UAE

The collective belt buckle of What’s On has been loosened a notch in 2014 as we’ve eaten our way around the city in fine style. The result of our feasting is the annual collection of the 50 best things we’ve eaten this year. Debate over what got in and what didn’t quite make the cut was intense in What’s On HQ. During our discussions, a steak went toe to toe with a halibut, chicken pie took on some chips, and a chocolate cake went up against a blueberry muffin – all that was left was a trail of crumbs and some dirty napkins. Read the list and go try what catches your eye. If it’s in the top 50, it must be good.

The inaugural What’s On Party In The Park is without doubt the most exciting new event on the Dubai calendar this month. British pop starlet Lily Allen headlines the day of food, music and fun, with The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft and The Ting Tings providing superb support. The brunch deal and concert ticket for Dhs650 is one of the best bargains around. Get your tickets, they’re going fast.

Other major music comes to the UAE this November in the form of Pharrell, The Who and Armin van Buuren, who will play the Formula One post-race gigs in Abu Dhabi. Read our exclusive interview with guitar legend Pete Townshend and see why The Who are still rocking crowds 50 years after they first formed.

If you’ve got a gang of pals and you’re looking for something to do, check out our collection of group activities. Suggest a day of rafting, a bowling alley, a puzzle house, or a pub quiz and your mates will think you’re plugged into the Dubai matrix. What about a picnic? The weather’s perfect right now and we’ve nailed the best places to eat one, plus tips on how to do it yourself.

We’ve got exciting new restaurants such as Rhodes W1 from star chef Gary Rhodes, cultural exhibitions, theatre, gigs, well-being, plus loads of sporty ideas to tackle now the thermometer has calmed down. Hello Dubai winter, we’ve been expecting you.
