Eight of the top 10 female tennis players in the world are coming to Dubai for February’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

As well as leading stars Agnieszka Radwanska, Ana Ivanovic, Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber, world number one Serena Williams, number three Simona Halep, and number four Petra Kvitova will all play in what was one of the best supported and most popular tournaments on the international circuit. Williams’ sister Venus will also return to defend the crown she won last year.

It was also announced by organisers that they hope to bring Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Thomas Berdych in for the men’s event a week later. Full details will be confirmed next week.

Held at the Dubai Tennis Stadium in Garhoud, the centrepiece of the Irish and Century Villages complexes, the two events take place on February 15 (WTA) and February 23 (ATP).

“We are delighted to be welcoming the world’s best players back to Dubai,” organisers said. “We are looking forward to some thrilling matches, with so many great players here the fans will be able to see world class tennis on every day of the tournament.”

Tournament Director, Salah Tahlak added: “This tournament is eagerly awaited by players and fans alike and the line-up this year is really fantastic. We look forward to welcoming spectators for this year’s event and providing some unforgettable tennis action.”

An evenly split prize purse of $5million is up for grabs, in what is the 23 instalment of the men’s event and 15th of the women’s.

Tickets for the event are on sale from January 19 at the stadium’s box office. For further information about tickets, prices and the tournament visit dubaidutyfreetennischampionships.com
