When it comes to mixing extreme fitness training with having a normal life, Tom Otton knows a thing or two. The Dubai businessman is currently training for Marathon des Sables, an event that’s the equivalent of five and a half marathons over six days. He also is founder of his own media company – and still manages to enjoy a fair bit of Barasti.

We sat down with Otton at Urban Bistro’s Hijack Our Kitchen event to talk top fitness tips. Here’s what he said…

How do you balance being social with training? Have balance. Don’t be afraid to take a break, but then straight after, get right back into it.

What tips do you have for regular folks? Educate yourself about what you’re putting in your body, and eat as natural as possible.

What nutrition advice do you have? Plan. My diet is fairly low carbs and high fats, and I love coconut oil.

What motivates you? Just the knowledge that the more you put into training, the more you get out of it.
