Part of Dubai’s Al Quoz district is set to be enveloped in colour on January 30, for one night only, with the largest Latino Fiesta in the UAE.

Talented South American artists exhibit their works; percussive ensembles provide visual drumming shows; and Mexican, Argentine and Spanish outlets serve tasty South American fare from artsy pop-up stalls… and that’s just a taste of the pioneering line-up at Artissima Gallery for the first ever Latin Art Fest (LAF) in Dubai.

Organised in collaboration with the Dubai Shopping Festival, the one day festival celebrates the blending of Latin American and Arab culture through musical, artistic and gourmet exploration.

Dr Ximena Cordova, LAF Project Manager said, “We hope it will serve to strengthen the ties between the 50,000+ strong community of Latinos living in the UAE and our hosts, and to bring up to date the ancient history of links between Arabic and Hispanic culture, thus highlighting the role of Dubai as a major site in contemporary global culture”.

Latin Art Fest runs for four hours from 7pm to 11pm on Friday January 30 with live tango and flamenco performances. Those feeling inspired can even take to the street and try their hand – and feet – at a free tango lesson.

The hub of the event will be the Artissima Gallery, which currently hosts a photographic exhibition ‘Latinos in the UAE’, featuring the first solo exhibition in the Middle East of British fine art photographer, Tariq Zaidi.

“We are proud to bring the first major celebration of Latin culture to the heart of Dubai, transforming the streets into a Carnival of Latin art and culture” said Maria Urrutia, founder of the All Quoz Project.
