The UAE has played a starring role in many blockbuster movies thanks to its futuristic skylines, royal palaces and epic desert wilderness. Here’s a look at a few of them.

MISSON: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL (2011).
That nail-biting stunt where Tom Cruise hangs off of the Burj Khalifa is arguably one of the coolest action movie shots in history. Filming the Dubai scenes took 23 days and over four hundred crewmembers were on hand to make sure that nothing went wrong.

FAST AND FURIOUS 7 (2015)
The latest Fast and Furious film has action and danger but it’s the scenes shot in Abu Dhabi, particularly those shot at the iconic Emirates Palace that are causing the biggest stir.

SYRIANA (2005)
Syriana was the popular geopolitical thriller of 2005, which included A-listers George Clooney and Matt Damon. The movie sees a CIA agent pursue targets in Iran – which is actually Dubai. The movie earned Clooney his first Oscar for his supporting role in the movie.

WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS (2010)
The sequel to the 1987 film, Wall Street, staring Michael Douglas and Shia La Beouf, is the story of an ex-conman and convict trying to build up his empire once again while trying to reconnect with his daughter. Most of the movie centres on mischievous characters doing dastardly things but we also get a glimpse of the glamorous life the protagonists lead. Not surprisingly, they chose Dubai for the opulent shots.

STAR WARS (2015)
The long-awaited Episode VII of the Star Wars franchise is coming soon. Filming began in April last year and cast members travelled to Abu Dhabi in early May, where massive sets were built at the location. The set included a shuttle-like spacecraft, a large tower and a big market. Check out more Star Wars pics here.
