PICS: Dubai 2017
Dubai from the sky
We love UAE

What’s On has been planking, crunching, hula-hooping and bear crawling this month. No, these aren’t new dance moves – we’ve been getting buff in gyms all over Dubai.

The result of this exertion is our cover story for our new June issue: how to get fit indoors. With things slowing down just a touch in the workplace and with temperatures soaring, this is the time of year when Dubai digs out their gym kit and takes action. We’re here to help, providing you with the city’s best personal trainers, plus news of climbing walls, five-a-side football, boot camps, and a preview of Dubai Sports World.

With all this exercise, it’s important to refuel, and we have details of a string of cool new places in which to chow down. Undoubtedly, the most talked-about of these is The Sum Of Us. The hip new café from the team behind Tom & Serg in Al Quoz have opened up near World Trade Centre and, with the crowds already streaming through the door, it looks like they have another hit on their hands. See what we thought in our new issue.

Other Dubai foodie news includes the openings of Tre By Roberto Rella (he of Roberto’s fame in DIFC), plus Park House on Kite Beach, Al Grissino, Tesoro, and a new branch of north African restaurant Almaz By Momo. We also have expert advice from La Serre’s head chef Izu Ani on how to make the perfect scrambled eggs.

Elsewhere in our June issue, we have a preview of Michael McIntyre’s stand-up comedy show; interviews with the skaters from Disney On Ice; and where to go in Dubai if you want a theatre spectacle with your dinner.

This month also sees What’s On turn 36 and to mark the occasion we’re giving you the chance to win one of 36 prizes. Yes, we realise birthdays are supposed to work the other way round with you giving us presents, but we’re a generous bunch here and giving beats receiving – right? We have stays in luxury hotels, dinners, brunches, fitness equipment, gadgets and lots more treats just waiting to be won. Go to whatson.ae to enter.

Our culture section this month has news of theatre, dance, and fascinating new exhibitions in the city featuring photography, drawing and painting. And, of course, the rest of our pages are filled with events, news and great tips for getting the best out of your Dubai life.

Right, we must dash. Inspired by our indoors fitness issue, we’ve been typing this message with one hand while doing bicep curls, and it’s time to switch arms. Deep breath. And eight, and seven, and six…

Enjoy the issue.
