Dubai after dark: Things to do in a city that never sleeps
What’s On has details of 24-hour dining, spas and activities in Dubai including Zaroob, Zataar w Zeit and the Nike+ Run Club Midnight Mile.
New York may be known as ‘the city that never sleeps’ but here in Dubai you can eat, shop, join a midnight running club and even have your nails done from dusk ’till dawn. Here’s a pick of our favourites.
Feeling peckish at 4am? Many an insomniac urge for hummus and falafel has been satisfied by a trip to Zaroob. No matter the hour, we’ve never seen the place less than lively, thanks to its groovy graffitied décor, tasty eats and cool crowd. Eat your weight in shawarma then wash it down with one of their enormous juices.

Need a late night three-course meal long after most restaurants in Dubai have closed their kitchens? Head to the Dusit Thani Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road – the 24-hour restaurant Maison Mathis has an impressive midnight menu. From 10pm to 1.30am you can tuck into everything from wagyu beef burgers to mushroom risotto and home-made panacotta.

Zaatar w Zeit
If you haven’t stepped foot inside this Lebanese fast-food cafe in the early hours of a Friday morning, you haven’t done Dubai. Carb-up with delicious manaeesh (warm flatbread topped with thyme, sesame, marjoram and oregano) or tuck into a giant wrap filled with turkey and cheese, with a huge helping of fries. You’ll wonder how you lived without it.

Al Reef Lebanese Bakery
This popular 24-hour Lebanese bakery has been satisfying the late night carb cravings of Jumeirah’s residents for year. It’s well known for the doughy, gooey goodness of the cheese manakeesh, but the sweet coconut macaroons are worth saving room for too.
Al Wasl Road, Jumeirah, Dubai, daily 24-hours. Tel: (04) 3945200. Taxi: Opposite Al Wasl Square
Never experience the awkwardness of turning up to a party without a gift again – the S*auce gifts vending machine at Wasl Square offers a 24/7 shopping experience. There are 35 items available, ranging from homeware to hotel stays, and you could spend anything from Dhs150 to Dhs3,000.

Milk & Honey
Usually when the midnight munchies strike, our tastes are less sophisticated than usual, veering towards food you can pick up at a drive-thru. Raise the bar with a trip to gourmet grocer’s Milk & Honey, where you can pick up fresh produce, healthy snacks, hard-to-find ingredients and even some ready-made meals around the clock.
