Sad news for music lovers in Dubai; popular venue The Basement has closed.

Less than a year old, and much-loved amongst the music scene in Dubai, The Basement quickly earned a reputation as the go-to venue for original underground, forward-thinking electronic music.

The Basement also established itself as a favourite with the underground music scene because of its stripped back atmophsere where the music was valued more than the surrounding decor.

“It’s a real club environment,” said Shibuya music night organiser Mike Bufton at the launch of his club night in the Tecom venue only eight months ago.

It was even awarded the title of ‘Best New Club’ at the 2015 Hype Awards beating out stiff competition from the likes of Pacha, Provocateur Dubai, O2 Nightclub and C Club.

“As of yesterday the Basement has officially been SOLD,” said Marko Smokingroove, musical director at The Basement. “I like to think that we truly managed to break down some musical barriers in Dubai and offered something unique and original. Thank you to my solid and talented team of promoters and every last single person who danced at The Basement. I will be throwing popup Basement parties around town and for those who know me, you know it will be good as I don’t just take on any old project.”

Music nights Shibuya and Secret Circle are currently being re-housed, so keep checking back for updates.
