What’s On has details about the annual Walk 2015 at Yas Marina Circuit on November 13, and where you can start walking here in the capital.

Residents are being encouraged to get moving, in preparation for the Walk 2015. The annual health walk, which will coincide with World Diabetes Day, will take place at Yas Marina Circuit on November 13, 2015.

According to recent statistics, around 20 per cent of the Abu Dhabi population is diabetic, with approximately the same percentage rate falling into the “pre-diabetic” category. Daily physical exercise, such as a brisk 30-minute walk each day, and losing excess weight can help prevent the onset of diabetes and for those with the disease, manage it better.

From this week onwards, Health Authority Abu Dhabi and the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre will be hosting six weekly “mini walks,” open to the public, before the big event.

Walks will take place in Al Ain on Mondays at Al Jaheli Park from 7pm. Head to Yas Marina Circuit during Train Yas and Go Yas (ladies-only) for strolls on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6.30pm on Yas Island. Al Gharbiya Public Park in Madinat Zayed and Mushrif Park will also host walkers on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7pm, respectively. And for those who’d prefer to stay in the air conditioning, Abu Dhabi Mall will host an early 8am walk every Saturday.

In addition to the walk, there will also be health, fitness and nutrition presentations as well as children’s activities. For more details and registration information, visit: walk2015.com
