6 things to do at Warehouse421
What’s On has details about what you should see at Warehouse421, the newest art space in Mina Port, during their opening November 19 to 21.
Abu Dhabi’s newest cultural destination Warehouse421 will be hosting a special three-day grand opening event this weekend, from November 19 to 21. The facility, which is located in the heart of the Mina Zayed port district, will host a variety of exhibitions, art workshops, outdoor creative market and live music performances during the inauguration.
So what should you do? Here are some top picks from What’s On on how to spend your time.
Listen to Grammy award-winning artists
Head to the dhow yard, complete with once-functioning boats moored into the gravel, to listen to the sounds of Tuareg music from artistic collective Tinariwen. The Malian musicians, who won a Grammy Award in 2012 for Best World Music Album, will be performing Berber and North African rhythms on Thursday November 19.
Try your hand at making tiles
Led by instructors from the Art of Islamic Pattern in the United Kingdom, the Zellij tile making workshops will see you create your own unique works of arts by assembling precut tiles together. Workshops last 90 minutes and will be held in Studio 4 throughout the weekend. Advanced booking is required.
Check out the Creative Market
Step outside to check out this market. Featuring 22 local and international artists and designers, the marketplace is made up of colourful shipping containers featuring designs and products (think jewellery, furniture, homewares and more) from vendors such as Aljooud Lootah, Bil Arabi, Etqaan, Naqsh Collective and Silsal Design House.
Look at old family photos
The Lest We Forget: Emirati Family Photographs 1950-1999 art exhibition features never before seen images captured from local families right here in the UAE. From private family portraits to video installations and a vintage camera collection, the showcase will be on display until June 18, 2016.
Make a tote bag
Another interactive workshop to check out, Mix and Match Abu Dhabi will let participants learn about the printmaking process from Lebanese artists and design/stamp their own tote bags. Workshops will be held in Studio 3.
Learn more about Mina
Check out the series of images from French photographer Jack Burlot to get an idea of what Mina Zayed is all about. The exhibition, Mina Zayed: Through the Lens of Jack Burlot, will be exhibited until March 19, 2016 and features scenes of the iconic fish market, local residents and the Abu Dhabi skyline.
