What’s On has details about the new Star Wars themed installation coming to the capital.

Ahead of the Middle Eastern premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens tonight at Emirates Palace, the Aldar headquarters in Al Raha is being turned into the Starkiller Base.

The special, 100-metre high installation is being created in partnership with twofour54 and Aldar Properties PJSC. Work on the project is currently taking place, and is sure to be unveiled soon – we’ll let you know when it is. The above picture is a rendering of what it will look like.

Home of new baddie Kylo Ren, the Starkiller Base was originally an ice planet that served as the headquarters for the First Order. The base has also been fitted with a superweapon that is able to destroy entire star systems. That however, is all we know, as no other details have been released about the significance of the base or how it is to feature in the film.

Early reviews of Star Wars: The Force Awakens have been overwhelmingly positive (the US premier was hosted on Monday, December 14 in LA), if a bit vague, in an effort to curb spoilers.

Arguably the most anticipated film of 2015, the franchise shot a portion of scenes right here in Abu Dhabi. With assistance from twofour54 and the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, over 650 crew worked on the project back in May 2014. Abu Dhabi will stand-in as Jakku, a frontier desert planet in the remote section of the Outer Rim Territories. Check out the trailer below to catch a glimpse of the Liwa desert.

The Middle Eastern premiere of the film will happen tonight at a red carpet event at the Emirates Palace.

Sorry folks, but it is a strictly invite-only screening. Everyone else will be able to check out the film on Thursday, December 17 when the movie is scheduled for general release.
