Take a sneak peek inside Dubai’s new opera house here…

It’s opening tonight, Wednesday August 31, and this is what the inside of the Dubai Opera will look like (pictured above).

The world’s most famous baritone Plácido Domingo will be the first to tread the board’s of Dubai’s state of the art theatre. Doors will open at 6pm, and the operatic display will begin at 8pm sharp.

There’s no mandatory dress code for opening night but the expectation is black tie and ball gowns (naturally). Tall hats and big hair are discouraged (for obvious reasons).

What’s On takes a good look inside…

The beautiful wood detailing, the red seats and the imposing stage – Dubai Opera is as magnificent as we’d imagined it.

All seats in the new theatre have fairly uninterrupted views, but if money is no object you’d want to choose one of those glorious VIP box seats that flank the enormous auditorium.

The theatre boasts 2,000 seats and will host opera, theatre, concerts, exhibitions, sports events, orchestra and more (we imagine there will be the odd very-high-profile wedding in there too).

While the opening night starring Spanish opera legend Domingo is sold out, there are many other shows lined up for Dubai Opera this year, including three-act opera The Pearl Fishers on September 1 and 3 and ballet Giselle on September 16.

Oh, and good news for opera fans, an extra night has been added to the Jose Carreras Final World Tour, and he’s now playing on October 4 as well as October 8. This will be your final chance to ever see the Spanish tenor on stage, as the 69-year-old is set to retire.
