A bunch of stars are coming to the city…

Have you heard abut PopCon (not to be confused with the deliciously salty cinema snack)?

Well, it’s a three-day popular culture festival coming to Dubai for the first time later this month, and with it comes the chance to see some very famous faces.

Fashion Police panellist, E! host, and red-carpet regular Giuliana Rancic has just been announced as the host of the whole thing, which will take place at the Dubai Outlet Mall between October 27 and 29.

“I am thrilled to be part of PopCon and even more excited that it’s happening for the first time in Dubai,” she said.

“It’s going to be a buzzing three-day extravaganza that will include pop culture elements mixed with lifestyle and beauty trends to satisfy all tastes for this diverse cosmopolitan city.”

The list of star guests is being rolled out a little at a time, but we do have some details for you.

Who’ll be there?

Well, for starters there’s going to be a section called BeautyFest, which sounds perfect for all the makeup aficionados out there.

Rancic will be chairing several panels, and there’s also some celebrity makeup artists jetting into to give special workshops.

YouTube and Instagram star Chrisspy Makeup and Kuwaiti beauty guru The Real Fouz will both be in attendance, as will makeup and hair stylist Etienne Ortega.

Oretega’s worked with all the Kardashians and Kardashian-Jenners, along with Christina Aguilera, Eva Longoria and Kate Beckinsale (to name a few), so if you’ve ever want to learn how to nail contouring, this sounds like your guy.

All of PopCon will be free to enter – as will the panel discussions – but tickets to the makeup workshops will cost between Dhs2,000 and Dhs4,000. (The more expensive tickets will also get you the best seats, a meet and greet, and a goodie bag).

Starting with a big bang

PopCon isn’t just a beauty event (it’s just that those stars have most recently been revealed) – there’s also going to be plenty of offerings around music, TV, film, comics, video games, fashion and fitness.

Most of the full line-up is yet to be announced, but there’s definitely going to be live concerts, talks, and a Cosplay competition, all held in a purpose-built complex.

The festival’s anchor event is Fiesta De Los Muerto, a Halloween-themed night of music on PopCon’s opening night.

Confirmed acts are electronic superstars Major Lazer and recently reformed UK girl group All Saints (yes, they of Never Ever fame, and another big performer is set to be revealed soon.

Concert-goers are also encouraged to dress up as their favourite hero or villain.

Who else could be coming?

Well, details are scant but PopCon organisers have promised a recognisable selection of names will attend (and with film companies like Marvel and Disney setting up shop, we have our fingers crossed for some bonafide movie stars).

As a guide, the first Asia PopCon took place in the Philippines last year, and guests included Avengers star Paul Bettany, Game of Thrones actress Natalie Emmanuel, and Teen Wolf Colton Haynes.

“We have a couple of fantastic and exciting celebrities already confirmed that we would love to announce, but we’re also in the process of confirming several more, so we’ve decided that we’re going to roll that out starting from end of next week, until we’ll be able to go on sale in a couple of weeks’ time,” Thomas Ovesen, CEO of 117Live, told Gulf News.
