There's an adults-only food truck fest' coming to Dubai this month
Love food truck food but not a fan of the likely consequence of kids crying around you because they’ve consumed too much sugar? This is the event for you…
This weekend and next, the seaside parking lot next to Barasti will become Street Food Market DXB.
What’s that, you ask? Well, the food fest’ will feature 20 pop ups and food trucks, but there’s one catch: no kids are allowed. In fact, it’s not even just toddlers that won’t be let through the doors, teenagers will be turned away too: the event is for those over 21 only. Oh, and local DJs will be providing some curated tunes.
The licensed festival will run on Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 and Thursday 26 to Saturday 28, from 7pm to 2am on Thursdays, 12pm to 2am on Fridays and 4pm to 11pm on Saturdays.
The entry fee? That’ll be Dhs10.
Fancy yourself a Masterchef?
Throughout the festival there will also be a Street Food Lab competition, and by the end of the month one person will be chosen, and that person will get the assistance of the Street Food Market DXB team to start their street food dream.
Basically, if you’re a budding chef and have a recipe you think the crowds will love, email firstname.lastname@example.org now with a picture of yourself, a picture of your concept and a short description of your concept (make the subject line Streetfoodlab).
One amateur chef will be selected per night and will work with the team to bring their food to hundreds of visitors (there will be assistance on branding on the night too). At the end of the second weekend a crowd favourite will be chosen.
So what food can we expect?
Well, there will be a bunch of different international options – as well as wine, beer and selected drinks for sale.
Here are the food outlets that we know will be there…
Zapie Kanka will be serving open Polish-style sandwiches (that are absolutely smothered in sauce).
Chef New from JLT’s Cafe Isan will be there cooking her healthy take on Thai cuisine.
Burgeritch will have your pattie needs covered.
Raclette DXB will be serving up the Swiss dish that basically involves smothering everything in cheese.
Yumtingz will be offering a local delicacy over the weekends, serving a camel burger.
We love the Shebi’s blend of Lebanese and Indian flavours (their Butter chicken paratha is our festival go-to in fact).
Moti Roti is another classic – their Pakistani soul food never lets us down.
Mantoushe will be serving up Middle Eastern wraps.
Huguette & Guy creperie will be there (we love a post-burger crepe)…
Moshi serves Japan’s finest – sushi – as well as a Nepalese delicacy – momo.
And Dubai market stalwarts Ka’ak Al Manara will be providing the Lebanese comfort food that is their sesame bread.
See you there?
