The lads obviously love this city…

They were here in 2014, and they also performed in the city last year: UB40 clearly love Dubai, and they’re returning…

Well, it’s not quite UB40 – the original lineup that was together for 30 years has seen members drop off over the years and so there are currently two versions of the band touring the world. One is just called UB40, and the other is called UB40 with Ali, Astro and Mickey (we’re getting the latter, which features the band’s most recognisable members).

Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue are three of the key founding members of the band, and this is the group that will come to Dubai next month: they will be joined by their trademark 12-piece band.

The founding fathers of the legendary reggae-pop band are set to play live at Thursday March 30 at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium in Garhoud.

With over 30 years in the music industry and with more than 40 million record sales under their belt, there’s no doubt that UB40 have earned their spot as industry legends.

We spoke to Ali Campbell, the group’s lead singer, about his love for Dubai a few years ago: “I’ve spent many years in Dubai and I’ve watched it grow. The first time I visited Dubai was in the early ’80s and there wasn’t even an airport then. I started off in Jumeirah, and then into Mina Salaam, and then Al Qasr. I basically lived there with my wife and kids most of the time. I know it like the back of my hand.”

UB40 have had a busy 12 months, and their new album Unplugged came out in November.

The new album features a number of their classics recorded acoustically as well as a number of new hits. Upon release, it went straight to number 17 on the UK chart.
