3. Win a lip sync battle

Friday September 1

6. Check out an Eid Food Festival (and fireworks!)

There will be food trucks as well as lots of “oohs” and “aahs” as fireworks go off to celebrate Eid at Gateway Park on Yas Island.

7. Party at Maya Fridays

Never been to Al Maya Island? It’s a 10-minute boat ride away from the mainland of Abu Dhabi and once there you’ll find the Al Maya Island Resort – and every Friday, you’ll also find a beach party taking place on the island’s white sands and by its pool, appropriately called Maya Fridays. Local DJs such as Chad Funk and Stew Magoo regularly spin the wheels of steel, bashing out dance and house tunes. Ladies get free entry before 1pm, Etihad staff before 2pm. Table packages for drinks and food, such as mixed fajitas, are also available, costing between Dhs1,500 and Dhs3,500. Guests must be aged 21 and up.

8. Try a Peruvian brunch at Coya

Abu Dhabi’s Peruvian restaurant has updated its brunch menu. It now features a ceviche and mojito masterclass, plus grilled options and new desserts.

9. Barfly by Buddha Bar is also serving brunch…

Barfly relaunched its brunch on August 11 and it’ll be running on the Eid weekend as well. Dishes on offer include wagyu rib eye and mochi ice cream.

10. And so is Crust at the Four Seasons

11. Listen to a Colombian band

12. Horse around at the Stable Caffè

The capital’s first horse-themed restaurant (the décor, not the menu, you’ll be pleased to hear) has arrived. It serves Italian dishes and gourmet burgers.

13. Get spooked out by virtual reality

Adventure Centre in Deerfields is your chance to explore a VR world – you wear a Samsung Gear headset that covers your eyes and your body is attached to a device that looks a little like a giant baby bouncer (it’s called a Virtualizer), but enables you to move without falling over. You can then play games such as Affected: The Manor, a psychological horror adventure.

Monday September 4

14. Play classic arcade games

If you’re taking a long break this Eid, then visit Stars ’N’ Bars on the Monday evening – every week they get out a selection of classic arcade machines for guests to play, including Street Fighter IV and Virtual Soccer. There’s also pool tables and ’80s music on the stereo and three free drinks for ladies.
