New vocational college provides a stepping stone for fresh graduates…

Are you fresh out of high school and keen to break into Dubai’s ever-growing tourism industry?

Well, there’s now a direct path to your dream job, as the newly-launched Dubai College of Tourism (DCT) is offering courses for students looking to eschew the traditional academic route to university.

A government-backed institution, the DCT specialises in vocational training, meaning that courses will focus on a mix of on-the-job training and theory, giving students both the practical and marketable skills they will need to make it in the industry.

Five core courses are available – Tourism, Events, Hospitality, Retail and Culinary Arts – that cover the gamut of careers one typically expects in tourism, with the DTC offering work placement and internships as part of the curriculum.

According to the website, all courses are accredited by TAFE SA, South Australia’s largest vocational education provider, and the institute is currently seeking accreditation from the UAE’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which will mean the qualifications will be recognised throughout the GCC.

Dubai’s tourism and hospitality sector is expected to employ upwards of 500,000 people by 2020, and the DCT seems like the perfect foot in the door for young hopefuls.
