Two Italians and a world famous steak restaurant; we’re spoiled for choice…

From unique dining experiences to wallet-friendly dinner deals perfect for pairs, we seem to have it all when it comes to new restaurants.

But as the foodie scene gets bigger and bigger, we’re seeing both old and new concepts bringing a fresh approach to dining in Dubai.

So here are four restaurants on our radar to check out this week (and here are the fresh places we pointed out last week).

The Brand New

BASTA!: One of two servings of David Myers Downtown

BASTA! describes that it ‘transports diners to an urban interpretation of a Roman trattoria, Florentine steakhouse and Neapolitan pizzeria’ – and the menu is inspired by Myers’ travels to these regions. The restaurant, which is located down the stairs from Bleu Blanc, Myers’ other opening in the Renaissance Downtown, boasts an open-plan kitchen and wood fire grill at the heart. Expect theatrical Italian cooking, industrial combinations of brick, wood and marble interiors and an extra-large painted artwork of iconic actress Sophia Loren. There’s also an outdoor terrace with great views across the Dubai Canal that we’re eyeing up as our next sundowner spot.

Basta!, Renaissance Downtown, Business Bay, daily 12pm to 12am. Tel: (04) 512 5555. basta-dubai.com

Ravioli & Co: A new Italian for DIFC dwellers

Authentic Italian Ravioli & Co has just opened in Burj Daman, DIFC. With its rustic décor of old flooring, aged wooden tables, exposed ceiling, metal wire lights, antique accessories and an open kitchen, the restaurant has a cosy feeling about it. From Italian breads such as focaccia and grissini baked in-house to fresh handmade pasta, Ravioli & Co. advertises that it will offer a ‘genuine Italian experience’. Head Chef Eros Brambilla, who hails from Northern Italy, has curated a menu offering a plethora of made-from-scratch pasta dishes, prepared daily by an in-house sfoglina (pasta lady)-.

Ravioli & Co, Burj Daman, DIFC, daily 12pm to 12am. Tel: (04) 241 1616. ravioliandco.ae

STK: Food meets party at the latest serving at Rixos Premium JBR

Just when you thought no more restaurants, bars or clubs could arrive at the Rixos Premium on JBR (it’s already home to a second Lock Stock, nightclub Inner City Zoo, Azure beachclub, mediterranean Riviera Beach Grill and Turquoise all day diner), the much-anticipated STK opens its doors. From Friday December 1, the famed American steakhouse and party spot is opening to the public. The menu features several of the brand’s signature dishes, along with a number of exciting new ones. Although prime cuts of beef are the star of the show, the menu extends to including a collection of fish dishes too. The 220 seater venue describes that it will offer ‘the ultimate blend of food-meets-party’. We look forward to finding out.

STK JBR The Walk, Rixos Premium, JBR, timings to be confirmed. Tel: (052) 348 0957. More info on website
