The Burj Khalifa has earned a new Guinness World Record…

The world’s tallest building has put on a dazzling show to ring in the New Year.

This year, authorities decided against the traditional New Year’s Eve Burj Khalifa fireworks display, citing safety reasons. In its place was a laser and light show titled ‘Light Up 2018’.

The spectacle was unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. The 828-metre tower was used as a canvas to display symbols of the UAE, such as Arabic calligraphy, the UAE flag, and even a giant falcon in flight.

The show, which lasted around seven minutes, also highlighted the fact that 2018 is the Year of Zayed, featuring a portrait of the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayhan.

There was music, there was colour, there was even an accompanying performance from the Dubai Fountain. All of these elements combined to establish a new Guinness World Record for the largest laser, light and sound show on a single structure. Awesome.
