Some 88.2 million travellers passed through the airport in 2017, up from 83.6 million the previous year, according to an annual traffic report issued by operator Dubai Airports.
London was the top destination city with 4 million passengers, followed by Mumbai with 2.5 million passengers and Jeddah with 2.1 million passengers.
Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said the airport expects to see 90.3 million travellers in 2018.
Dubai International Airport first overtook London Heathrow as the world’s busiest airport for international travel back in 2014.
The world’s busiest airport overall might surprise you – it’s actually Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia, USA.
The airport recently secured the top spot for the 20th year in a row, with 104 million passengers. It’s closely followed by Beijing Capital International Airport in China, whose numbers rose to a record 95.8 million in 2017.
