This could affect your travel plans next year…

Dubai International Airport will close one of its two runways for 45 days next year while it undergoes extensive upgrade work.

The southern runway will be closed from April 16 to May 30, 2019, according to Dubai Airports.

During this time, airlines will have to scale back their operations at DXB, as only one runway – the northern runway – will be in use.

This means some passengers may have to instead travel from Dubai World Central, also known as Al Maktoum International Airport. DWC is located in Jebel Ali, about 60km from DXB.

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said: “In the months ahead we will be working closely with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, airlines and other stakeholders to ensure we optimise service and capacity during this period next year and minimise the impact on our customers.

“While we regret any inconvenience this may cause to our airline customers and our passengers, these upgrades are absolutely necessary to heighten safety, boost capacity and pave the way for future growth.”

Dubai Airports said more information will be made available as plans develop and as flight schedules are finalised.
