Time to stock up on the essentials…

Good news for grocery shoppers: according to a report from Gulf News, the Ministry of Economy (MoE) has announced a new initiative that will see the price of some consumer goods cut by as much as 50 per cent for a month.

The period, which coincides with the International Day of Happiness on 20 March, will run a full month until 20 April and include over 600 stores across the UAE.

According to the report, a deal has been struck between major hypermarket chains (including, Carrefour and LuLu) and the MoE to drop the price on thousands of essential goods and commodities.

There’s no word yet on which goods exactly will be seeing a price cut, but The Khaleej Times cite a story in Arabic language daily Al Bayan that states upwards of 7,500 items will see a price reduction.

We’ve reached out to representatives from Carrefour and LuLu for clarification and will update this story as we learn more.
