Ramadan is expected to start this week, and although we’re still waiting on official confirmation, it’s likely to start on Thursday May 17. Ahead of the start of the Holy Month, we’ve rounded up a few things to keep you busy.

Sunday May 13

1. Party with a Little Mix star

Polynesian tiki bar Mahiki has hosted a flurry of celebrities recently including former X Factor winner James Arthur, and One Direction alumnus Niall Horan. This week, they’re set to welcome another X Factor star, and one quarter of girl group Little Mix, Jesy Nelson. There’s free drinks for ladies until 12am.

2. Rub shoulders with footballing legends

Barasti will be hosting a screening of the Reds’ closing game of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion – with some very special guests in tow. Former Liverpool FC players Steven Gerrard and Steve McManaman, along with former coach Gary McAllister, will be in attendance at the free-to-attend viewing party and will hold a live Q&A with fans.

3. Tuck into a cheese night

Cheese lovers can head down to Axe House this Monday for the launch of a new cheese and wine night. An opportunity to experience some of the UK’s best cheeses, it will be paired with wine and craft beers, alongside some live music.

4. Check out a graduate showcase

The annual show of work produced by graduating students in the six degree programs from Sharjah College of Architecture, Art and Design is taking place this week in d3. The students’ work will be on display to the public on Monday May 14 and Tuesday May 15.

5. Enjoy a coffee in the sky

Flying Cup, the pop-up cafe on JBR invites guests to enjoy a drink of their choice while hoisted 40 metres above the ground – and this is your last week to check it out. Tickets cost Dhs80 for an adult and Dhs40 for children aged 4 to 12, with the price including a soft drink of your choice. There’s no need to pre-book, just show up on the day.

6. Gather the girls for a great value ladies’ night

The Scene’s ladies’ night is well known for being part of the Pier 7 circuit (four other restaurants in the tower also have Tuesday ladies’ nights), but now the popular British restaurant is adding food to its offering. Priced at Dhs140, ladies can take advantage of a two course set menu and two hours of free flowing drinks from a selection of wines, spirits and cocktails.

7. Enjoy a summer lunch special

Demoiselle by Galvin has launched a value lunch menu for the summer. Starting witha soup of the day, it’s followed by a menu of light summer dishes including Smoked Beef Pancetta, with crème fraiche, shallots & rich Gruyere Cheese and the Demoiselle Club Sandwich, both nutritious and delicious. It’s priced at Dhs53, and includes a hot or cold drink of your choice.

8. See a stunning water show for less

Still not seen the Al Habtoor water show, La Perle? Well now’s your chance as they’ve just launched a flash summer sale, and tickets start from Dhs199. The 90-minute show has been conceptualised by Franco Dragone, and during the performance, acrobats and athletes dive from 25 metres into the changeable aqua-stage filled with 2.7 million litres of water, and fly around the theatre at 15 kilometres per hour.
