Here’s something we never thought we’d see…

Three of rock music’s most iconic figures are set to storm the stage at Dubai Opera later this year, for a night of ear-piercing punk music and unembellished life stories.

‘Never Mind the Opera’, taking place on Thursday, September 20, will feature a lineup of artists who, back in their heyday, would never be caught dead inside a venue as swanky as Dubai’s opera house. Oh, how times change!

Headlining the evening will be a veritable punk supergroup featuring bass player and founding Sex Pistols member, Glen Matlock performing alongside legendary Stray Cats drummer Slim Jim Phantom and guitarist Chris Spedding.

They’ll be belting out a repertoire of their classic punk and rockabilly anthems, so expect tunes like ‘Pretty Vacant’ and ‘Stray Cat Strut’, and expect it to be loud.

Joining them will be the Hugh Cornwell Band, led by the original guitarist, singer and main songwriter of The Stranglers, one of the UK’s most underrated ’70s punk bands, best known for their 1981 hit ‘Golden Brown’.

Both performances will be peppered with tales from each of the legendary musos from a bygone era of rock, and we don’t expect any punches to be pulled.

Tickets starts at Dhs150, with an early bird offer of 20-per cent off VIP, Platinum and Gold seating running until 8 May.
