Drive safe out there, folks…

Driving in Dubai can sometimes be a nerve-wracking experience, especially for those more accustomed to navigating small country lanes as opposed to enormous 12-lane highways.

Dubai Police have revealed that there have been 1,250 major traffic accidents (many resulting in serious injuries or fatalities) in the first half of 2018, and while this is down from 1,447 accidents the same time last year, it still helps to consider what one can do to be safer whilst driving.

To that end, Dubai Police have released statistics on which major Dubai roads are considered the most dangerous with Emirates Road ranking at the top of the list with 30 serious accidents and 14 fatalities recorded in 2018.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed Road are second and third most dangerous with eight fatalities and 72 accidents and eight fatalities and 69 accidents respectively since the beginning of the year.

The Dubai-Al Ain Road recorded 26 accidents and four fatalities since January ranking it the fourth most dangerous road in the emirate. And finally, Dubai Police listed Al Khail Road as the fifth most dangerous with three fatalities and 34 accidents.

Pretty grim stuff, but it’s not all bad news.

A senior official at Dubai Police’s Traffic Department was quoted in Gulf News saying that the drop in road accidents from the same time last year can be attributed to an increase in road security control and the police’s efforts in raising awareness about traffic rules violations

Hopefully we’ll see numbers drop even further as the year goes on thanks to these measures. In the meantime drive safe out there, folks.
