Abu Dhabi Corniche Park was one of just three parks worldwide to receive the honour.

An Abu Dhabi Park has scooped the equivalent of a gold medal in a global competition – a Green Flag.

Abu Dhabi Corniche Park was one of just three public parks worldwide to be recognised by the UK-based Green Flag Award scheme, which is described as the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

The organisation recently held a People’s Choice vote, with more than 1,000 votes received spanning 12 countries for just over 100 eligible sites outside the UK.

Parks were rated based on their services, facilities, safety and security standards, as well as how aesthetically pleasing they were.

“It’s inspiring to see so many residents from local and regional communities vote for their favourite park around the world,” said Carl McClean, international development manager for the Green Flag Award.

“It really does acknowledge the hard work and dedication put in by those employees and volunteers that maintain these highly recognised parks.”

On the Green Flag Award website, Abu Dhabi Corniche Park is described as “a modern, carefully landscaped, recreational area, located in a strategic position as part of the expansive public beaches at the northern end of Abu Dhabi Island”.

The other two People’s Choice winners were Provinciaal Groendomein Rivierenhof in Belgium, and Tim Smythe Park in Ireland.
