Another week, another restaurant gets the royal seal of approval…

Dubai’s royals can often be seen supporting the city’s eateries, and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has just given a new DIFC hotspot the royal seal of approval.

The Vice President of the UAE and ruler of Dubai was snapped having lunch at Greek restaurant Gaia this week, which has recently opened in DIFC’s Gate Village.

Sheikh Mohammed was joined by Dubai’s Crown Prince at the homegrown hotspot.

But it’s not the first time Sheikh Hamdan has dined at Gaia, which opened its doors in November. He was previously spotted at the restaurant just five days after it opened, happily posing for pictures with a delighted Chef Izu, the mastermind behind Gaia’s menu.

““Welcoming Sheikh Hamdan into our restaurant was an honour and an incredibly humbling experience,” chef Izu told What’s On at the time. “I truly admire his polite and kind nature, and his down-to-earth personality, and this is something I strive to achieve in my day to day life. He is an inspiration, and I am so grateful that he took the time out of his schedule to visit us and support our latest project,” chef Izu added.

Gaia is a collaboration between chef Izu and Bulldozer Group, the hospitality company behind venues including Cipriani, Scalini and Base Dubai. Here’s what we thought when we visited.
