From a thought-provoking festival to a mega beach party and doing some good for the environment with Earth Hour, there’s something new to do every day during the weekend here in the capital.

Here are 7 things to do in Abu Dhabi this weekend.  

Thursday, March 28

1. Attend a mind stimulating festival


Ideas Abu Dhabi is a two-day event held in Abu Dhabi packed with loads of brilliant activities including inspiring talks, thought-provoking workshops, musical performances, food trucks and much more. The line up of speakers includes Amin Toufani who will be speaking about various technological revolutions and Jose del R. Millán who has transformed the lives of patients with physical disabilities by giving them the power to move robotic arms or electric wheelchairs with just their minds. There will be musical performances by blues artist, Jay Abo, and tonnes of other fun festival activities and games.

2. Check out Action Zone

If you grew up in Abu Dhabi, you’ve probably heard of this gaming center. It’s been in the capital since 1986 and now has a new home in The Mall at World Trade Center Abu Dhabi. It features several new and exclusive attractions as well as popular ones such as Jump Up, a trampoline playground and a Zone PC Gaming Lounge with the latest PC and PS4 gaming titles. There’s also a spacious party hall available with an LED dance floor.

3. Attend the UAE’s ultimate beach festival

The second edition of Club Social takes place over two days from March 29 to 30 on Yas Island with a headline performance by Bastille. The band will be hitting the main stage with their hit singles including Pompeii and Of the Night. Apart from live music, the festival will have an immersive programme of beach sports, retail pop-ups, food concepts, and entertainment. Tickets will be free to the festival if you register on their website before Friday, and it will be Dhs50 at the door. Tickets to Bastille will cost you a further Dhs195.

4. Just keep swimming for clean seas

Put your swimming skills to the test at Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort and join their venture for ‘Swim for Clean Seas’. There are four distances to choose from, so you can pick what suits your level best. Those attending will also learn how to reduce disposable plastic waste, and there will be other fun activities and workshops available. If you can’t swim, you can still show up and support the participants (and the environment).

5. Join author Hessa Al Muhairi at Magrudy’s

Hessa Al Muhairi, the award-winning Emirati author will be at Magrudy’s in Al Wahda Mall, Abu Dhabi from 3pm to 5pm for a fun afternoon of story time and crafts. She will be reading from her book ‘The Dinoraf’ in Arabic, but it will be simultaneously translated into English as well. A creative dinosaur craft activity will follow. All children in attendance will receive a free copy of Hessa’s picture book and it’s free entry to the event if you register online here.

Saturday, March 30

6. Celebrate Earth Hour

Head on over to St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort and dine under the stars at the award-winning steakhouse, 55 & 5th. The resort is celebrating Earth Hour and will be switching off its lights across the property from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, creating the perfect opportunity for a special candlelight dinner with your loved one. You can dine on the terrace as well as indoors, and the dinner includes a complimentary welcome drink.

7. Dine at Diablito

Celebrate the end of the weekend by heading to Diablito and enjoy this amazing Saturday-only offer. If you order a small pizza here, you will get two pints of beer free, while ordering one large pizza will get you four pints of beer free. If you’re not in the pizza-eating mode, order the gourmet burger and get one pint free. The venue offers spectacular views of the F1 Yas Marina Circuit and has outdoor seating too, so make the best of it before summer arrives.
