HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President of the UAE and ruler of Dubai attended the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi this week and had very touching words to say about it.

While the focus of the World Games has been kept on the incredible athletes up until now, in light of UAE Mother’s Day, Sheikh Mohammed shared a tweet highlighting the great work that mothers of athletes do to support their champions.

“The willpower of determined athletes reflects the work and devotion of exceptional mothers. On Mother’s Day tomorrow, we celebrate success stories of outstanding mothers,” Sheikh Mohammed Tweeted.

He was given a tour around the Games, alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Chairman of the Board of Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care & Special Needs H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

During his visit, he also honoured Hassan al-Hadraki, a Saudi athlete who won gold in athletics.

The Special Olympics World Games closing ceremony will take place on Thursday March 21, headlined by American singer Nicole Scherzinger. She will be joined by This Is Me singer Keala Settle and regional stars including Bahrani-Saudi musician Rashed Al Majed, Iraqi star Waleed Al Shami and Emirati singer Hamad Al Ameri.

The artists will close the show on what has been a brilliant week of incredible sporting feats as athletes competed in 24 different individual and team sports. Tickets for the closing ceremony are priced from Dhs60 from ticketmaster.ae. Doors open from 4pm, with the closing ceremony set to begin at 7pm.
