As we say goodbye to April, we head into another month to fill with fun stuff. And this May, there’s plenty to do. Queen fans, there’s a treat for you on the QE2, while the return of Ramadan brings some brilliant deals to the city’s spas, theme parks and beach clubs.

Here are 10 things to look forward to in Dubai this May. 

May 1 to 3: Rock out at a Queen tribute concert

Whether you’ve been a Freddie Mercury fan forever or the smash hit Bohemian Rapsody renewed your love for the Brit rock band we’ve got a treat for you – Theatre by QE2 is set to host a Queen tribute show this May. The four-piece tribute act will take to the stage as Freddie, Brian, Roger and John take to the stage for a show described as an ‘all-action production’ that recreates ‘the excitement of their legendary stadium spectaculars’. Audiences can expect to be treated to an array of Queen’s superb songs over the two-hour show, from their earlier hits in the 70s including Bohemian Rapsody, Somebody To Love and We Will Rock You to their later top 10 hits such as Another One Bites the Dust, Under Pressure and I Want To Break Free to some of Mercury’s last works in the early 1990s, the show promises to deliver a score of non-stop Queen hits sure to have you on your feet.

May 3: Throw it back with a retro rave on the sand

On Friday May 3, the beach club at Atlantis, The Palm is throwing it back with the ultimate retro beach party, promising old school tunes and seaside games. The free-entry event will see the pool and beach area at Atlantis transformed with retro decor sure to have you reminiscing of your partying heyday, with complimentary beach access for all guests. Kicking off from midday, the first 30 ladies through the door will enjoy complimentary iced treats and VIP access to sun loungers, cabanas and sofas – so arrive early to bag the best bed. Free flowing bubbly will also be offered from 12pm to 1pm for ladies, as if you needed any other reason to be on time.

May 3: Fiesta at a red-themed party at Nikki Beach

Olé! Take a trip to Spain without leaving Dubai with Nikki Beach’s fist ever red party on Friday May 3. Guests can expect an afternoon of Flamenco-themed fun as they dance to the beats of Nikki Beach Dubai’s resident DJs.

From early May: Experience a lavish Iftar

Although the official Ramadan date is still yet to be confirmed, it’s likely to be around May 5. Once Ramadan begins, there are a host of Iftars to experience across the city, from budget to blow out. Throughout May: Enjoy discounted entry to a stunning beach club

The oh-so-Instagrammable Drift Beach club will be reducing entry rates for guests looking to spend the day soaking up the sun this month. Entry throughout May will be priced at Dhs200, down from Dhs250 through the week and Dhs300 on weekends. Entry includes a sun lounger, towel and bottle of water, with food and drink available to order a la carte poolside, or at their provencal-style restaurant.

May 9 and 16: Test your limits with a night time obstacle course

The UAE’s only night-time obstacle race, the NAS Night Challenge will see competitors from the UAE and around the world taking on the 5km course. Athletes can compete as part of a team of four people, on 9 May, or on their own on 16 May.

May 10: Gather the girls for a cinema-based ladies’ night

VOX cinemas has launched a new ladies’ night, which takes place a couple of times a month at their locations in Mall of the Emirates and City Centre Mirdif. The next one will take place at 8pm on Friday May 10, with a screening of A Vigilante, starring Olivia Wilde. Tickets for the ladies-only cinema night are priced at Dhs80 and include tickets to the screening of a new blockbuster, popcorn, a soft drink, a choice of main course and goodie bags to take away.

From May 10 and 11: Check out a fun new weekend brunch

The London Project is one of the best additions to the brilliant Bluewaters island development, and it’s launching two new brunches this month. From Friday May 10, guests can enjoy The Shoreditch Brunch; a sharing-style menu that includes fish and chips, mango and jalapeno glazed chicken and wild mushroom and truffle gnocchi. While Saturdays from May 11 will be dedicated to The Chelsea Brunch; a three-hour serving of breakfast dishes, followed by dishes from the restaurants main menu.

Throughout Ramadan: Get your adrenaline fix for less at Legoland

Looking for some family-friendly fun that won’t break the bank this Ramadan? Then head to Legoland at Dubai Parks & Resorts. Throughout the holy month, UAE residents can avail tickets for just Dhs100 to either Legoland or Legoland Water Park. From the first day of Ramadan, Legoland Dubai and Legoland Water Park will open Saturday to Wednesday from 10am to 5pm, with Legoland Water Park operating from 10am to 6pm Thursday and Friday while LEGOLAND Dubai will open 10am to 8pm.

Throughout Ramadan: Pamper yourself with discounted spa treatments
