From casual pub grub to upscale Asian eats…

Looking to mix up your weekend dining experience? Bored of your usual hangouts? Whether you’re after tasty pub grub where you can take to the bowling lanes, or upscale ‘Mediterrasian’ dishes served with a side of sax and live music, we’ve rounded up three restaurants – with tasty new menus – to check out this weekend.

New menu: Play

At What’s On, we’ve always been big fans of Play. The restaurant really brought ‘Mediterrasian’ cuisine to the forefront of the Dubai food map when it opened on New Year’s Eve in 2015, and it’s stood the test of time every since. They’ve recently relaunched their menu, which features an array of hot and cold Asian and European dishes. The sushi includes a selection of typical options, as well as some more inventive combinations, and now the menu also extends to pasta and risotto served in a giant pasta wheel in front of you, as well as prime cuts of meat and skewers that arrive still sizzling. The chocolate lava cake is a must-try.

Play, H Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road, 8pm to 2am, daily. Tel: (04) 336 4444. playrestaurants.com

New menu: The 44

Whether you’re there to watch or participate in sports – The 44 is a brilliant sports bar. Found atop the Hilton Al Habtoor City, they’ve just revamped their menu of proper pub eats. As well as a selection of burgers, sandwiches, wraps and bites, the menu now also covers curries, risotto and heartier meat dishes. The fact that it boasts the world’s highest bowling alley is just a bonus.

The 44, Hilton, Al Habtoor City, daily noon to 2am. Tel: (054) 5811758. facebook/The44Dubai

New menu: The Glasshouse at Jumeirah Islands Club

Tucked away inside the Jumeirah Islands Clubhouse is The Glasshouse, a family-friendly restaurant serving a hearty array of tasty dishes. They’ve just launched their new menu, and it features something for everyone – from pizza and pasta to salads, sandwiches, an extensive grill selection and some gastro classics. Staff are friendly, portions are generous, and floor to ceiling glass windows look out onto the terrace and infinity pool that looks to the JLT skyline, so while you might not be able to sit outside, it feels like you are. Order the mushroom risotto for a hearty, flavoursome bowl of traditional Italian comfort food.

The Glasshouse, Jumeirah Islands Club, Jumeirah Islands, daily from 8am. Tel: (04) 360 1889. Facebook.com/Jumeirahislandsclub
