Football fever is slowly setting in… 

It may be years away, but football fever is slowly setting in for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

The draw for the second round of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup was held on Wednesday, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and it was revealed that the UAE football team will be in Group G for qualifying.

The news was also posted to the UAE Football Association official Twitter account:

According to the tweet, the UAE football team is in Group G and seeded in Pot 1, of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia are also in Group G.

The draw saw 40 top Asian nations allocated based on the June’s FIFA rankings. They were divided into eight groups, with five teams in each.

Here’s what the competition in the other groups look like:

Group A: China PR, Syria, Philippines, Maldives, Guam

Group B: Australia, Jordan, Chinese Taipei, Kuwait, Nepal

Group C: IR Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Cambodia

Group D: Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Palestine, Yemen, Singapore

Group E: Bangladesh, Oman, India, Afghanistan, Qatar

Group F: Japan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Myanmar, Mongolia

Group G: UAE, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia

Group H: Korea Republic, Lebanon, Korea DPR, Turkmenistan, Sri Lanka

So, when will the games begin?

The second round of the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint-qualifiers is scheduled to begin on September 5, 2019 and last until June 9, 2020.

Each team will play eight games in the second round on a home-and-away basis.

Eventually, the eight group winners automatically progress along with the four best runners-up, to the third and final stage of qualification of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.

The FIFA World Cup will take place in Qatar from November 21, 2022 to December 18, 2022.
