Take note when making your upcoming weekend plans…

If you’re making weekend plans for the rest of the month, listen up: there’s going to be another dry night in Dubai this August.

On the occasion of Islamic New Year, no alcoholic beverages will be served across Dubai from 6.30pm on Saturday August 31, until 7.30pm on Sunday September 1, according to a circular issued to hotels and restaurants across the city by Dubai Tourism.

The dry night, which is really a dry day as it lasts for 25 hours, applies to all licensed restaurants and bars, including hotels, across the emirate.

Currently, it’s not yet known if Dubai residents will enjoy a long weekend on the occasion of Islamic New Year. As the date is subject to the sighting of the moon, we won’t know until nearer the time the exact date, but it’s expected to be Saturday, August 31.

While we typically get one day off for this public holiday in the UAE, we won’t know until nearer the time if we’ll be given Sunday September 1 off, or if it will be a regular Friday, Saturday weekend.

We’ll keep you posted.
