The 50th anniversary of the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens is almost here – and it’s set to be the best one yet.
The huge sporting event is returning to the Sevens Stadium from Thursday December 5 to Saturday December 7. And as well as the two major rugby tournaments, there’s set to be plenty of action off the pitch too.
This year, the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens is celebrating the 1970s with its fun retro theme. So, if you’re already thinking about your costume, perhaps we can encourage you to dig out your best 70s wear? From flared jeans to bold prints and your best hippie gear, get ready to take a trip back to the 1970s this December.
As if your outfit wasn’t enough, the Rugby Sevens will see Bareface-trained dancers taking to the stage at the entertainment village, dancing their way through some of the greatest hits from the seventies era.
Top UK tribute act Joey Dale will also be bringing his rendition of Freddie Mercury to Dubai for the weekend, so expect to sing along to Queen hits such as Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You and Don’t Stop Me Now.
Straying slightly from the 1970s theme, entertainment will also come from cheerleading troupe, Mana, who have flown in from the UK, flag bearers, Dubai City Sounds Ladies choir and the skilled Police drumming Corps, all on hand to entertain guests throughout the weekend.
Of course, the entertainment highlight is set to be a live performance from Kylie Minogue on Friday December 6. Prepare to be Spinning Around to the pop songstresses best-loved hits including Can’t Get You Out of My Head, Locomotion and In Your Eyes.
Entry to the tournament is free for all on Thursday, while general access tickets are Dhs300 for Saturday, Dhs400 for Friday, or Dhs500 for a weekend-long pass.
Reserved seating tickets start from Dhs700, or opt for the Dhs1250 ticket, which includes entry on Friday and Saturday, plus reserved seating in Bay 2 stands for the matches and Golden Circle access to the Kylie Minogue concert.
Studio 50 VIP Experience tickets are priced at Dhs2,500 per person for Friday or Saturday (minimum 2 tickets per order), or Dhs4,000 for the full weekend. Tables of ten start from Dhs30,000.
For those driving, there are over 12,000 parking spots available at the Sevens Stadium. If you’re getting a taxi, the RTA taxi rank is found at the public main entrance Gate 10 and VIP Gate 6, while a dedicated Careem service will operate from Gate 9 and VIP Gate 6.
A complimentary shuttle bus service will operate from the stadium to various locations in Dubai from 5pm to midnight on Thursday, 6pm to 1am on Friday and 6pm to midnight on Saturday.
Family buses will drop off at Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Studio City, while all other buses will drop off at bars and pubs across Dubai including Barasti, The Irish Village, LSB, Media One Hotel and Bidi Bondi.
