Welcome back Abu Dhabi, it’s been a little minute…

Looking for something to do in Abu Dhabi this deliciously snack-sized working week? We’ve got you covered. Literally, because it’s V hot outside.

Tuesday, July 12

Sk8er boys and sk8er girls

There’s a full kitbag of indoor sporting entertainment available at Zayed Spot City, but one of our favourite active highlights is getting on the ice skating rink — a exceptional way to cool down from just Dhs55 — and there are even lessons available if, like us, you’re still a bit Bambi on stilts. You can also go on strike with Cosmic Bowling (7pm every Wednesday) at the compound’s Khalifa International Bowling Centre. Because in space, nobody can hear you gutter ball.

Ready player one?

There’s an 11-day gaming festival being held from July 7 to July 17 at Yas Mall’s Sports Boulevard. There are interactive gaming stations, opportunities to pick up and play, tournaments, and Esports. Button bashing opportunities include playing on Elden RingHalo InfiniteWWE 2k22 and Mario Kart 8, as well as a collection of retro titles such as Pac-ManAsteroids and Street Fighter. Perfect!

Pool dips and tortilla chips

Amerigos brings the Latin fuego all year round, but the thing about fuego is, you need a place to cool off. Enter the Cancun Wet Wednesday Pool Part. Live entertainment, three hours of unlimited drinks and it wouldn’t be Mexican fiesta without food. There’s 50 per cent off across the menu, and that’s something well worth taco-ing advantage of.

Park Inn by Radisson Abu Dhabi, Yas Island, Wed 6pm to 9pm, Dhs89 for ladies, Dhs159 for gents. Tel: (02) 656 2000, @amerigosyasisland

Splat goes the easel

As the name suggests, this house of artistry is all about getting a little bit messy all in the pursuit of creating colourful abstract masterpieces. They run a few different programmes for adults as well as kids — with sessions in neon work, fluid paint, pendulum art, and spinning art. Prices start at around Dhs139 for an hour and include all the materials to go full Picasso on a piece of canvas.

Tea-ing up a fun weekend

Tea on the Terazza, is almost impossible to say (or write) without pinching your fingers together in that most Italian of ways, and shaking them agitatedly. And its appropriate here, this very Mediterranean-inspired afternoon tea takes place on the breezy terrace of the Al Bateen Marina-based Edition hotel. Highlights of the food involve meringue peaked charcoal croissants, mini avocado egg on rye bread, baby burrata and prosciutto with grilled peach. It’s Dhs120 with unlimited tea and coffee, and Dhs188 with two-hours of free-flow bubbles.

The Abu Dhabi Edition, daily 1pm to 6pm, from Dhs120. Tel: (0)2 208 0000. @abudhabiedition

It’s the Clymb

things to do in abu dhabi - clymb

Inside Yas-based adventuredrome, Clymb — you can skydive and scale up an artificial Everest beneath the snug-comfort of a steel sky. The venue is home to a truly epic wind tunnel that lets you live out all the thrills of hurling yourself out of a plane, except at a few metres above sea-level and without having to put faith in square metres of voluminous nylon. Prefer your ascents a bit more hands-on? There is a huge collection of climbing walls, and boulder-edging to pit your finger strength against. It’s our nation’s spiritual home of the war on gravity.

Clymb, Yas Mall (by Ferrari World entrance), Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, Sunday to Thursday 11am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday noon to 11pm, basic climb package Dhs120 for 60 minutes, Combo tickets from Dhs315. Tel: (600) 511115, clymbabudhabi.com
