Does this rooftop lounge go above and beyond?

Located on the rooftop of Canary Club, Tiki’s is the newest rooftop lounge in JLT. From the second we arrive, we start gushing over the venue. With a long bar and thatched roof, we snap pictures of the venue as mixologists are busy creating unique cocktails. Next to the bar, a DJ is spinning house tunes under a disco ball.

Tables are placed in a line opposite the bar under a bamboo roof with hanging geometric wooden lamps. Plants segregate each table giving diners an intimate dining experience without losing out on the view.

Despite the foliage, Tiki’s manages not to go overboard with the decor, instead opting for a more minimalistic approach. There’s another dining space at the far end with white sofas and low dining chairs – a spot we’re told is already popular for events and occasions.

When it comes time to order drinks, we pick from the special cocktail section unique to the lounge. First up is Coconut Skies (Dhs70), a whiskey-based coconut creme drink, was a refreshing sweet delight and the Cobra’s Fang (Dhs65), an Aperol Spritz with a habanero reduction – an element that added a spicy note to an otherwise sweet drink. The Boozy Suzy (Dhs88) is great gin-based option, while the Pina Colada in a coconut shell is also a must-try.

TIKI SUSHI

For bites, we opt for the braised short rib taco (Dhs85), which comes with a juicy filling packed generously inside a crispy taco shell. The sushi platter (Dhs195, only available on Mondays) comes with four dishes. We loved the salmon aburi – a medley of torched salmon, crab meat, shrimp tempura and aioli, which was a delicious mouthful of flavour; and we quickly polished off the ceviche, which had the right acidic touch.

For desserts, the churro tarte tatin (Dhs48) with pineapple compote and ice cream is nestled in a sugary crispy churro bowl and won us over as the dish of the night. For cocoa fans, try the flourless chocolate cake (Dhs58) with ice cream for a light yet gooey treat.

What’s On verdict: A spot we’re sure will be a huge hit with the JLT crowd and beyond.
