The historical run takes place this weekend…

Running shoes at the ready… The Middle East’s first and oldest international marathon, The Dubai Marathon, returns for its 23rd run this Sunday January 7, 2024. Alongside the 42.195km marathon race, there are shorter races of 4km and 10km, meaning all levels of fitness are invited to the party.

The deadline for registration has been extended so you now have until Saturday, January 6 to sign up:


This year, the marathon race returns to its historical route after moving to Expo City last year.

The Dubai Marathon will start and finish on Umm Suqeim Road for all three races – the 4km fun run, the 10km road race and the classic 42.195 kilometre marathon. The marathon will take place on Jumeirah Beach Road with some stellar views for the runners including the iconic Burj Al Arab and Madinat properties.

How much does it cost?

42.195km marathon:

  • Age requirements: 18 years and over
  • Cost: $150
  • Start time: 6am

10km Road Race:

  • Age requirements: 15 years and over
  • Cost: $85
  • Start time: 6.30am

4km Fun Run:

  • Age requirements: Open to all
  • Cost: $50
  • Start time: 10am

Dubai Sports Council will work with organisers such as Dubai Police, Dubai RTA and the municipality to organise the running routes throughout the city.

What is the prize?

The fastest participants across several categories will receive a cash prize including men and women open, UAE nationals, 10km open, 10km UAE nationals, wheelchair open, and wheelchair UAE nationals. Prize money ranges from USD80k to USD1,000.

Take note, during The Dubai Marathon, a number of roads will be closed. The Road and Transport Authority will issue an update on the timings of the road closures closer to the date. Stay tuned to as we will let you know as soon as we do.
