HAKKASAN DUBAI

Trust chef Andy Toh to turn the Lunar New Year into high theatre. At the one-MICHELIN-starred Hakkasan Dubai in Atlantis, The Palm, the Year of the Horse unfolds as a nine-course procession of symbolism and polish. It opens with a delicate “fortune money dumpling bag” with king crab, scallops, chilli and crisp water chestnuts bundled as a gilded nod to wealth. Then comes the octopus “yusheng” salad, a riot of seven vegetables and tradition, tossed high for prosperity. The restaurant’s lacquered Peking duck remains a showstopper, followed by red seabream brightened with calamansi soy. Australian wagyu arrives blushed in auspicious red – peppercorn, pomegranate and beetroot – reinforcing themes of luck and abundance. Dessert pays tribute to the Horse in sculptural form, while the Celestial Steed cocktail – all citrus, basil and botanicals – delivers a crystal-clear, aromatic accompaniment.
Hakkasan Dubai, Atlantis, The Palm, February 16 to March 3, 6pm to 11pm, Dhs738 per person. Tel: (0) 4 426 1000. @hakkasandubai

The new MEI restaurant in Jumeirah Mina Al Salam approaches Chinese New Year with a more modern, indulgent hand. SHI

SHI’s Chinese New Year menu on Bluewaters leans into polished crowd-pleasers. Dim sum hits the familiar notes with har gau, chicken siu mai and a crisp prawn pancake, before moving into richer territory with Wagyu beef claypot, red snapper dressed in a punchy Gan Shao Yu sauce, and of course a Peking duck dish. Dessert lands on symbolism rather than indulgence with a Yin and Yang finish. While the set menu is available all week, lion dances and fan performances rotate across the venue on February 16 and 17, adding atmosphere without overwhelming the dining room.
SHI, Bluewaters, Dubai, weekdays 1pm to 1am, and weekends 1pm to 2am, from Dhs500. Tel: (0)4 393 9990. @shi.dxb
