Heading to Fujairah via Etihad Rail? Top things to do in the picturesque city
Astonishing natural beauty, mountains, marine life, history, and hidden gems
The Etihad Rail passenger train between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah is all set to launch on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. The journey between the two cities is set to take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, offering a much quicker alternative to travelling by road. And it’s clear that residents are excited to hop on board because tickets for the first two inaugural days are already sold out.
If you’ve managed to get your hands on a ticket to Fujairah, here are eight things to do in the scenic east coast emirate.
Experience the magic of Snoopy Island

Named after the cartoon dog it’s said to resemble in shape, Snoopy Island is a marine haven and one of the GCC’s top snorkelling spots. Beneath its sparkling cerulean waters, you’ll find turtles, rainbow-hued fish and even the occasional white-tip reef shark gliding through.
Explore the historic Al Bidya Mosque

On the scenic route between Dibba and Khorfakkan lies Al Bidya Mosque, the oldest surviving mosque in the UAE. Built from simple mud and stone, this centuries-old structure remains an active place of worship today. Its distinctive design – including four small domes and ancient carvings – sets it apart, reflecting its deep historical and architectural significance. The intimate prayer space inside can accommodate up to 70 worshippers.
Discover Al Bithnah Fort

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Hajar Mountains, Al Bithnah Fort is one of Fujairah’s key historical landmarks. Dating back to the 18th century, it once played a defensive role in protecting inland routes between the east coast and the rest of the UAE. Built using traditional materials like stone, mudbrick and plaster, it has been carefully restored and now offers a striking glimpse into the region’s military heritage. Today, it stands quietly over the surrounding landscape, making it a rewarding stop for history lovers and curious explorers.
Step inside Fujairah Fort

One of the UAE’s oldest forts, Fujairah Fort has long stood as a symbol of the emirate’s history. Originally built to defend the city from invaders, it now offers visitors a glimpse into life from a different era. Climb to the top and you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views where heritage meets the modern city skyline.

Set in the Hajar Mountains, Rainbow Valley is known for its striking, multi-coloured sandstone formations that make every step feel otherworldly. The moderate-to-challenging trek includes steep ascents and descents, adding to the sense of adventure. As the trail is unmarked, it’s best explored with a guide or local hiking group.
Trek Wadi Abadilah

Tucked within the Hajar Mountains, Wadi Abadilah is ideal for a scenic nature trek with a gentler pace. The trail passes through agricultural land dotted with banana, mango and date palm trees, with seasonal pools and flowing water adding to the charm when conditions allow.
