Inflatable neck pillows, dribbling on a stranger’s shoulder, jolting yourself awake in turbulence… We don’t know you any more.

As part of a larger retrofit project, Emirates Airlines are making some huge, comfort-improving upgrades to their fleet.

And within the slue of new features, there looks to be significant enhancements head the way of the ‘turn right’ contingent of passengers. According to a report by paxex.aero, in “economy class the planes will be fitted with a refreshed (and lighter) version of Safran‘s Z400 seat, including the Crystal Cabin Award-winning U-Dream headrest.”

The U-Dream Headset might sound like something you’d see on sale through a late night QVC informercial – but this prestigious bit of kit has some great reviews under it’s fastened safety belt.

The adjustable ‘wings’ fold up to create a cushioned, pillow-like support that can be adjusted in height and alignment to provide a cradled side support that prevents excessive head movements. The aim, aside from increased comfort, is to reduce neck fatigue, particularly on long haul flights.

paxex.aero revealed more interesting information about the relationship with seat manufacturer, Safran and Emirates, “seats on Emirates’ planes will eventually be manufactured in Dubai.”

“The order announcement includes an MoU for Safran Seats to establish a manufacturing line in Dubai in partnership with Emirates.”

Which aircraft will these seats be appearing on?

According to flytrippers.com, the new seats will be “gradually installed on 111 aircraft with the fleet retrofits of two models: A380 and B777-300ER.”

Also that “their 50 A350 aircraft on order will be delivered with these seats.”

This retrofitting process takes time, so the chances of you getting to experience them soon is small, but not impossible. Some passengers have already recorded evidence of the experience.
