FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The restaurant is bright, colourful and an absolute hoot, but the food is spot on too.
VIBE
One might think of Mexican dining concepts can drift into parody, but here. It’s fun, of course, but it takes its food, drink and service seriously.
WHAT TO ORDER
Diners are encouraged to share in the true Mexican tradition. However, larger main dishes such as burritos containing pulled chicken, Arrachera beef or shrimp, and sizzling fajitas of griddled chicken or griddled flank steak are also available if you want to go it alone.
LOOK OUT FOR
The drinks menu is an education, with over 90 tequilas as expensive as Dhs6,000 a shot to choose from.
IDEAL FOR
A lively Friday night dinner with pals, but outdoor seating is a good date spot, too; we even saw Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniaki on the table next to us.
INSIDER INFO
Grandma’s Corner, is exactly that, so named because the selection of recipes are straight from the grandmother of the head chef Carlos.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Very Mexican, very tasty – and not a straw donkey in sight. The energetic staff were well-informed and, with a pretty location by the waterside, the atmosphere is lovely.
