Dubai's JLT will be the first area in the UAE to get 5G
The advanced cellular network is set to make data connection in the district more seamless…
If you live in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT), expect an increase in your streaming or downloading speed this week, as the area will be the first in the UAE to benefit from 5G.
The announcement was made on Sunday October 27 by Dubai-based mobile communications operator, Etisalat and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), with the new network expected to be rolled out some time this week. Yay.
Why JLT? Well, because it’s one of the most popular in Dubai for residents and visitors, drawing in over 100,000 people every day. It’s a bustling hub of cute little cafes, indie restaurants and gyms that run along by the lakes, so whether people are bedding down to work remotely or catch up with friends, the new high-speed network will no doubt make things even easier.

As well as improving the speed of communications and downloads, the new network also looks set to be more economically and environmentally conscious, with smart solution technology that will monitor street lights, parking, noise pollution and environmental changes in the area.
Salvador Anglada, Group Chief Business Officer at Etisalat said “This will transform the JLT community to become the first 5G powered smart district in the region, making it a more seamless, efficient and safe experience for its members, residents and visitors.”
No strangers to being leaders of innovation, the UAE won the title of being the country with the fastest home internet in the entire Middle East region, earlier on this year.
It’s expected more of Dubai’s popular regions will have the 5G network rolled out before the end of the year, so watch this space.
