Disney On Ice is coming to Dubai for a four-night run later this year, featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse as well as the characters from Tangled, Brave, Cinderella, Pinocchio, The Little Mermaid and Beauty & The Beast.

After a hugely successful spell in Doha last year, the team behind the production have decided to bring their performers back to the region from September 10 to 13, at the Arena Hall in the World Trade Centre, Dubai.

The worldwide phenomenon, which is being put on by Sports & Entertainment Solutions (SES) and Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, has welcomed an audience of more than 30million across 75 countries. However, the Dubai shows later this year will be an international first for the Rockin’ Ever After, who have never performed outside of the US.

Rockin’ Ever After is one of nine different Disney On Ice experiences owned by the Walt Disney Company and uses around 100 performers and production crew.

“We have to build an Olympic-sized ice rink in the middle of the desert in September,” organisers said. “I don’t think a lot of people get what a big deal that is. We’re talking lots and lots of 14-foot containers coming from USA and setting up a 5,000-seat arena which is basically an empty shell.

“Besides building the site, and the light and sound, technicians will be flown in especially to build the ice. It’s a very unique science and takes about three days. But the technicians have got it down to a tee.”

They added: “We had the opportunity to bring it last year but could not get the dates for the venue.”We needed venues with ceiling heights of more than 14 to 15 metres and the Dubai World Trade Centre Arena is the only that can accommodate that.”

The international ice-skating show Rockin’ Ever After, produced by the US-based Feld Entertainment, is being organised i from September 10 to 13 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. More than 48,000 litres of water will be used to transform the venue into an ice rink.
