Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma brought Mussafah to a standstill yesterday with an appearance to promote their new movie

What’s the best way to make sure your shopping mall is full on a weekend? Inviting along two Bollywood stars to plug their new film appears to be a surefire way of getting in the crowds.

Dalma Mall hosted Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma yesterday – the movie stars are in the UAE capital promoting their new flick Jab Harry Met Sejal, a romantic comedy about a couple on a journey across Europe.

Early reports claim some 27,000 people saw the pair at the mall, although Dalma Mall has yet to confirm the actual figure, but these crowds are pretty huge…

That figure might be a little bit ambitious, but either way, as these videos show, there were a lot of people in Mussafah yesterday trying to catch a glimpse of the pair – and traffic outside the mall was at a gridlock.

The pair were originally meant to appear at 6pm, but finally made it on stage around 8.15pm. The crowd was well behaved, although Khan did have to ask for calm a couple of times as people naturally surged towards the stage.

Khan, often called by India’s media the ‘king of Bollywood’, has starred in more than 80 movies and won 14 Filmfare Awards (including Best Actor eight times), and his recent movies include Raees, where he played a bootlegger who becomes a mobster in 1980s Gujarat, and 2016’s Fan, about a movie star and an obsessed fan, while his co-star 29-year-old Sharma has won one Filmfare Award and most famously starred as a TV reporter in religious satirical movie PK and as a wrestler in 2016’s Sultan.

Jab Harry Met Sejal is released in UAE cinemas on August 3.
