If you’re less about the beats of today, and more about the tunes of yesteryear, we feel you.

And if you think music peaked circa the 1990s, then you’ll be pleased to hear about a brand-new event coming to Abu Dhabi.

The Sunset Music Festival will take place in Zayed Sports City on October 21, and features a nostalgic lineup of acts from around the globe.

Headlining the inaugural one-day event is Gabrielle, the British singer-songwriter famous for her ’90s chart-topper Dreams as well as singles including Give Me A Little More Time, Walk On By, and Bridget Jones soundtrack favourite Out Of Reach.

“I am very excited to be returning to Abu Dhabi and I can’t wait to play with my band at Sunset Music Festival. I’m sure it’s going to be an amazing event, and with this line-up I know the crowd is going to have a great time experience,” said the BRIT Award winner, who’s set to play some of her biggest tracks on the day.

The festival will also feature a performance from American alternative hip-hop group Arrested Development, who scored two Grammy Awards in 1993 thanks to songs such as People Everyday and Tennessee.

South African group Freshly Ground (they featured on Shakira’s Waka Waka) will also take to the stage during Sunset’s seven hours of music, as will German Eurodance duo Snap (the ones behind that catchy number Rhythm is a Dancer).

“We are very excited to announce such a strong line-up of talent for what is certain to be an incredible first Sunset Music Festival in Abu Dhabi,” said Zayed Sports City general manager Barry Bremner. “These artists are fantastic performers individually so when we bring them together and add a great crowd, there is no doubt this will be one of the best music festivals the capital has seen.”

Doors will open at 3.30pm on Friday 21 October, and the first performance will kick off at 4.30pm – there’s also plenty of F&B offerings on site, including stalls from The Sportsman’s Arms, Park Rotana, Costa Coffee and Ma’Plucker.

Tickets for the open-air festival will cost between Dhs255 and Dhs355, and will be available through platinumlist.net.
